Peace lilies will bloom if you follow plant expert's tipsWhile peace lilies will bloom in spring, the steps you take now matters – as plant expert Graham Smith MCIHort from LBS Horticulture pointed out. "The best way to ensure peace lilies bloom white spathes in spring is to ensure precise, optimal care during December, January and February," he said. "These months can be harder during the cold weather, so being prepared and keeping on top of care is essential." The first key tip is to "keep them in consistent warmth" of temperatures between 18C to 24C. "Ensuring your home never gets too cold is essential," Graham emphasised, adding that the peace lily should never be placed next to radiators. He explained that placing a peace lily near the radiator will only dry out the plant, which needs humidity to thrive, which brings us onto Graham's next tip. "Mist their leaves or use a humidifier to keep their humidity levels steady," he advised. "You could also opt to place their pot on a tray of water with pebbles, as this will work to keep them consistently humid." Graham added: "You could also place them near other plants as this generally helps humidity levels. If you have a humidity gauge, then humidity levels should be kept at 50 percent." During December and January, the peace lily should be fed with fertiliser every six weeks. "Make sure not to over-fertilise as this can harm growth," Graham advised. By the end of February, the advice is to "feed with a half strength high-phosphorus fertiliser" to encourage blooming. Another key factor is light, as Graham explained: "To maximise how much natural light they receive, make sure to keep curtains open during the day." But be sure not to place the peace lily on the window ledge because it'll be too cold for the plant there. An adequate amount of watering is also important, but the plant should only be watered when the plant is dry. "UK winters can make indoor soil slow to dry out, so overwatering can become a problem quickly," Graham cautioned. "Only water the plant when the root of it is dry, not just when the top layer is dry." He advised: "Think about purchasing a moisture meter as this will make it easier to track." Graham's top tips
