Pep Guardiola in altercation with Liverpool fan as seven-word comment riles Spaniard | Football | Sport

Pep Guardiola had an altercation with a Liverpool fan and had to be held back by his entourage following a seven-word comment that was aimed at the Spaniard. The 53-year-old endured a nightmare November in charge of Manchester City as the Citizens suffered four defeats in five games, before the team began December with a 2-0 reverse at Liverpool.

Guardiola struggled to stem the flow of losses, with the game at Anfield resulting in City’s fourth consecutive Premier League defeat.

The north west giants were also thrashed 4-1 by Sporting in the Champions League at the start of November before blowing a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Feyenoord in the same competition weeks later.

Guardiola has patently been frustrated by his team’s recent downturn in fortunes and was even seen with red marks and scratches on his head after the draw with Feyenoord.

And he was clearly riled when a Liverpool fan took aim at him while he was walking towards a hotel.

In a video posted to X (formerly Twitter), Guardiola was seen walking past a camera but failed to acknowledge the fan recording the footage.

The fan then shouted out to the former Barcelona manager: “F***ing hell mate, just cause you lost”. And Guardiola was obviously offended by what he heared as he turned around and attempted to approach the man.

Two men walking alongside Guardiola were then forced to intervene as they held the Spaniard back to ensure he didn't get himself in any trouble.

Guardiola shouted out to the fan as he tries to get his point across. But the City boss was eventually led away and left the scene.

It is unclear when the video was recorded, but the footage suggests Guardiola is feeling the pressure at the Etihad Stadium.

City currently find themselves nine points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool after winning just eight of their 14 league matches this term. The team are also 17th in the Champions League table, with two victories from five encounters.

Guardiola’s side did, however, return to winning ways against Nottingham Forest earlier this week. And after that match, the manager explained: “Of course today is a good day, but now we recover and in three days we have another one.

“We were winning 3-0 against Feyenoord and look what happened. So today the result was the key - important - and we did it. After what happened in the past we were not relaxed until the referee’s whistle.”
