Russell fumes at Verstappen's nasty 'f***ing head in the wall' threat | F1 | SportGeorge Russell accused Max Verstappen of issuing a chilling threat as the feud between the pair took an ugly turn at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Mercedes star sensationally claimed that Verstappen told him he would 'put you on your f***ing head in the wall' after their argument in Qatar exploded. Verstappen hit out at Russell's conduct when he was slapped with a one-place grid penalty by the stewards following an incident between them in qualifying. It robbed the Dutchman of pole, but he would go on to win the race at Lusail while Russell came home in fourth. Verstappen continued their disagreement after they were summoned to the stewards, with the four-time champion stating he had "lost all respect" for Russell following the spat. "You know what it is? He acts decent in front of the camera here, but when you talk to him personally, he is it is a different person..." Verstappen said to the Dutch TV. "I can't stand that. In that case you can better f*** off." In response, the Mercedes star, 26, has opened up on what Verstappen, 27, said to him in the aftermath as tensions threatened to boil over between the two drivers. "I find it all quite ironic seeing as Saturday night he said he was going to purposefully go out of his way to crash into me and 'put me on my f***ing head in the wall'," Russell said at the drivers' press conference in Abu Dhabi. "So to question somebody's integrity as a person, while saying comments like that the day before, I find is very ironic, and I'm not going to sit here and accept it." The outraged Brit also accused Verstappen of being a 'bully' to his peers and explained how he struggles to cope with difficult situations, which he claims often results in Verstappen lashing out. "People have been bullied by Max for years now, and you can't question his driving abilities. But he cannot deal with adversity. Whenever anything has gone against him - Jeddah '21, Brazil '21 - he lashes out," he added. "Budapest this year, the very first race the car wasn't dominant, crashing into Lewis, slamming his team. As I said, for me, those comments on Saturday night and Sunday were totally disrespectful and unnecessary." Verstappen has not been shy in making his grievances clear with Russell either. The Red Bull star took a swipe at Russell for trying to 'screw him over' in the stewards' room. “I was quite surprised when sitting there in the stewards’ room [about] what was all going on," he said last weekend. "Honestly, [it was] very disappointing because I think we're all here, we respect each other a lot. "And of course, I've been in that meeting room many times in my life, in my career, with people that I’ve raced and I've never seen someone trying to screw someone over that hard. And that for me… I lost all respect.” When was asked if he wished to wheel back his comments, Verstappen instead doubled down. "No, no regrets at all, because I meant everything I said and it's still the same," he said in Abu Dhabi. If I had to do it again, maybe I would have said even more, knowing the outcome of the race result." Source link Posted: 2024-12-06 04:24:16 |
