How to remove mould from grout fast without scrubbing

Mould attaches itself to most bathrooms because of their warm, damp conditions and often poor ventilation.

Those black spots creeping into the grout or clinging to the edges of your shower can seem impossible to remove.

However, Craig Phillips from Bathroom Mountain has shared a brilliant cleaning hack that proves you don’t need hours of scrubbing or expensive products to get rid of mould on shower tiles and grout.

He said: “My trusted method to restore bathroom tiles to their original brightness only requires two common household items: cotton wool and good old bleach.

“Cotton wool is something you might already have for a baby or makeup removal, and bleach, costing just 55p, is an essential product for every household.”

Craig added: “It’s a simple yet effective technique that works overnight with minimal effort.”

For this method, start by soaking cotton wool strips in bleach and carefully placing them along the mouldy grout.

The expert instructed: “Leave the treatment to sit overnight, allowing the bleach to work its magic.”

Craig claimed that by the morning, the results would be visible. He said: “The mould vanishes, leaving the grout looking as good as new.”

Mould thrives in damp and poorly ventilated spaces, which makes bleach an “ideal solution due to its antifungal properties”.

The cotton wool keeps the bleach in direct contact with the mould, ensuring it has enough time to break down even the most stubborn spots.

For grout that’s coloured, vinegar is a great natural cleaning agent that won’t damage your tiles or grouting.

Using a spray bottle, cover any mouldy areas of grout with undiluted white vinegar. Simply let the vinegar sit for an hour before rinsing with warm water and repeat if needed.

The expert also advised on ways you can prevent its return by improving ventilation with an extractor fan or open windows, regularly wiping down tiles and grout to reduce moisture, and applying a grout sealer for added protection.
