UK latest weather maps show new area of Britain hammered with snow | Weather | News

UK weather maps have suggested that Brits need to brace for a 48-hour snowstorm which could cause disruption in major cities across the country in December.

While forecasts from WXCharts have generally focused on the weather risk in traditionally frostier areas such as Scotland and Wales, new maps suggest the wintry barrage could have a wider impact than first suspected.

New maps reiterate the predictions that snowfall on Tuesday, December 10, will predominantly impact Scotland alongside parts of Wales and Norther England.

But they also suggest that the blitz could move towards East Anglia and coastal parts of Lincolnshire and Yorkshire on the following day.

The seasonal weather is forecast to continue for the remainder of the week before disappearing on Friday, December 14. WXCharts predicts that the icy blast will then be replaced by rainfall, especially in southern regions.

Up to 13cm of snow is expected to fall across much of Scotland on December 11, including in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. Previous predictions have also listed Newcastle, Manchester and Liverpool as being under threat.

And temperatures could also drop to lows of -12C at around the same time, with areas around Inverness in Scotland and northern England weathering the worst of the mercury fall.

The Met Office's long-range forecast for December 13 to 27 suggests wet and windy conditions, especially in the north and west with "a risk of some snow".

Meanwhile, the BBC's predictions for December 9 to 22 suggests a North Atlantic weather pattern could bring wind and rain to large parts of the UK, with temperatures likely to drop in Scotland and Northern Ireland due to a colder north westerly flow.

The broadcaster is also anticipating "further wintry spells" heading into next month.
