Peace lilies will grow and bloom 'faster' with 1 key plant tip

Peace lilies are tropical plants that produce beautiful white flower-like spathes during spring and autumn.

While an abundance of white spathes may be on the plant when bought in the shop, it's fair to say that people may find it challenging to make the plant to bloom again.

During December, if all of the white spathes have wilted from the autumn, there is a key way to increase the likelihood of another bloom in spring.

According to experts at Quirky Plants, "the more light your peace lily receives, the faster it will grow and bloom, especially in the spring".

While the peace lily thrives in bright environments, any harsh direct light will only damage the plant.

The most suited brightness is "indirect medium light", but this isn't the only requirement to increase the likelihood of a bountiful bloom.

Another important element is how much you water your peace lily houseplant; watering is only needed when the first two to three inches of the soil feels dry.

"Hold off on watering until she starts to droop a little," the expert recommended. "This is a good indication that she is ready for a drink."

The expert added: "Avoid letting your plant sit in any excess water for a long period of time."

Peace lilies also love a humid environment, but to replicate this preference at home, it could help to place the peace lily "on top of a pebble tray" in the bathroom.

"The perfect indoor temperature for the peace lily is between 18 to 28 degrees celsius," the expert added

"As long as the indoor temperature doesn't dip lower than 18°C she will be happy."

While not applicable during the winter, once spring rolls around, flower blooming can be encouraged with the addition of fertiliser every six weeks until September.
