Asda announces major change affecting all branches with in-store cafes

Asda is warming hearts with the return of its £1 deal for shoppers, offering a comforting soup, roll, and unlimited tea and coffee combo to help customers through the chilly winter months.

The supermarket giant, competing with the likes of Sainsbury's, Lidl, Morrisons, Aldi, and Tesco, has reintroduced this popular offer until the end of February, providing a choice of three delicious soup flavours: Tomato, Chicken, or Vegetable.

With an impressive 60,000 meals snapped up in just the first fortnight since the relaunch, Asda is also fostering community spirit, acknowledging that one in 10 over-60s visit their stores for human contact.

Sean McEvans, Asda's Commercial Vice President Fresh and Frozen, commented on the initiative's success: "We know winter is set to be incredibly hard for thousands of pensioners as they continue to worry about how to keep themselves warm in the face of rising living costs and on a fixed income."

He added: "We've already served 60,000 meals to the over 60's in the first two weeks, and since its launch 1.2 million meals have been sold showing the vital need for this initiative.

"By bringing Winter Warmers back for 2024 and extending it until February we hope it will prove just as impactful across the winter months for those who need it most."

This heartwarming move aligns with findings from Asda's new Christmas Community Report, which sheds light on the solitude many elderly individuals face during the festive season, revealing that supermarkets are often a lifeline for social interaction.

During the previous Christmas, 17 percent of people reported days when they didn't speak to anyone, and from mid-December to year's end, 15 percent admitted they became accustomed to not interacting with others.

In response, the retailer initiated the Winter Warmers campaign in November 2022 for a two-month period, targeting older customers most affected by escalating living costs.
