BT customers can make one simple switch to get cheaper broadband this Black Friday

If you’re a BT broadband customer and feel like you could be paying less for your internet service, there is a simple switch you can make to save a bit of extra cash in the run up to Christmas. Broadband provider Plusnet is offering fibre connections from £25.99 as part of a special Black Friday offer that also sees the firm waiving their usual activation fee.

For those not aware, Plusnet is actually owned by BT. This means both firms use the exact same broadband network to offer services to customers, which is the Openreach national network also owned and run by BT.

It means you can switch from your existing BT broadband to an equivalent cheaper Plusnet service and be sure of the same or better quality of connection, as both providers are using the same fibre network.

All you need to do is visit Plusnet’s website and enter your postcode to see what deals are available to you. These prices are only available to new Plusnet customers.

Fibre broadband is delivered via underground cables but promised speeds will vary depending on where you live. For example, this writer’s home in West London can get Plusnet’s £24.99 per month broadband on a 24 month contract with download speeds of 71-72MB.

The equivalent BT contract currently costs £29.99 per month for same period, so over the two year period Plusnet’s service would cost £120 less. Bear in mind both contracts are subject to an annual price rise of £3 every March. This is common for broadband services, and the flat rate £3 is the same for both companies in this instance.

Another example of price saving in another postcode is Plusnet’s 500MB service, which is much faster than the previous one mentioned. Plusnet’s Black Friday sale is offering it for £31.99 per month, whereas BT has it for £39.99. Over two years, that’s a saving of £192.

You could well be currently spending too much on your broadband. If you’re on a slow connection you might be paying the same monthly fee as when you set up your service years ago. Changing to Plusnet’s cheaper deals this Black Friday could be a good way to get out of your current contract. If you’ve completed the initial term of your contract, you should be able to leave - check with your current provider.
