Shoppers issued warning as 2 condiments recalled due to possible 'contamination'

Two popular condiments, Botham’s Great Yorkshire Pickle and Botham’s Red Tomato Relish, which can both be bought in the UK, have been recalled amid allergy fears.

The relish and pickle may have been contaminated with peanuts, which means they are a possible health risk for anyone with a peanut allergy.

Botham’s of Whitby stated on their website: "Due to possible peanut contamination in mustard seed at the ingredient supplier, as a precautionary measure we are recalling batch number 1--015 of Bothams Great Yorkshire Pickle, and 1--007 of Red Tomato Relish, sold through our Shops and online during this year.

"No other Botham’s products are affected. If you have a peanut allergy you are advised to return these products labelled with the batch numbers above to any Bothams shop for a replacement product or refund. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

An allergy alert update has been posted on the Food Standards Agency website with information about the items.

Product details of items being recalled:

Botham’s Great Yorkshire Pickle

Batch code: 1--015

Botham’s Red Tomato Relish

Batch code: 1--007

It comes after FGS Ingredients Ltd took the precautionary measure of recalling several spice products which may contain peanuts that are not mentioned on the label.

The Food Standards Agency website reads: "Several brands are taking the precautionary step of recalling several spice products that contain mustard.

"They may contain peanuts which are not mentioned on the label. This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts."

Other products included in the recall include Iceland Luxury Fish Pie, Papa John’s Garlic & Herb Dip and Waitrose Pickling Spice.

The recall was updated on November 20 and extended to include Botham’s Great Yorkshire Pickle and Botham’s Red Tomato Relish.

Anyone with a peanut allergy is advised to not eat these products and return them to Bothams for a replacement or a refund.

If someone with a peanut allergy consumes peanuts, they may experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the throat, lips or tongue, dizziness or fainting and, in severe cases, anaphylaxis.
