Dehumidifier hack will dry clothes ‘twice as fast’ and prevent damp and mould

Making sure your clothes are thoroughly dry this winter, it’s important to be aware of the possibilities of developing problems which could impact your health.

To tackle any possibility of damp and mould, you might have invested in a dehumidifier.

However, experts have shared a clever dehumidifier hack which can actually help you dry your clothes in half the time.

Experts over at consumer site Which? shared the clever discovery on social media.

They said: “Hang up your wet washing inside and put the dehumidifier underneath or next to it.

We tried this on two identical loads of washing with and without a dehumidifier, and the verdict using a dehumidifier cut drying time by nearly half.”

What’s more, the experts found that the dehumidifier sucked up around two litres of water from the air.

Soaking up the water from the air means that you’re less likely to develop damp or mould inside during the winter.

When drying clothes in your home, it’s important to think about which room to avoid drying them in to prevent mould.

According to researchers, drying your clothes in the bedroom could result in issues such as mould, dampness and some health concerns.

Laundry experts at In The Wash said: “Keeping moisture-filled laundry in your living spaces doesn’t just encourage mould and dampness, it can also lead to respiratory issues, and wet laundry can be a bit smelly too. The bedroom is one of the rooms you spend the most time in.

"Given the fact that wet laundry encourages mould growth, dampness and potential health issues it would be better to keep it out of a room you spend a lot of time in.”

Bedrooms may not be as well ventilated either, since many don’t have extractor fans and homeowners won't be keeping windows open in winter.

The experts added: “Drying laundry in such an ill-equipped environment could enhance higher chances of getting a mould infestation.

"In turn, this could lead to more serious health complications for the bedroom user, damp could give rise to several structural problems in the bedroom, and said problems could be costly to put right.”
