Moment 'Storm Shadow missiles' explode in Russia's Kursk | World | News

New video footage purportedly shows British Storm Shadow missiles being used to strike targets in Russia's Kursk region.

The video, which Express.co.uk could not verify, shows huge explosions in a rural location as missiles are seemingly fired near buildings.

The Kursk region of Russia was invaded by Ukrainian forces in August, when Kyiv's soldiers took control of numerous settlements.

Since then, Russian troops have been trying to force the Ukrainians out of Russian territory while carrying out their invasion of Ukraine, which started in February 2022.

Various other news outlets are reporting claims that Ukraine has launched British Storm Shadow missiles in the Kursk region of Russia.

The UK and Ukraine have not confirmed whether the British missiles were used to strike Russian territory. A source told Sky News that the missiles were used to attack Kursk.

The UK's authorisation of British missiles being used to attack Russia would come after outgoing US President Joe Biden allowed Kyiv to use American ATACM missiles for the same purpose.

Western allies' decision has angered Russia. This week, President Vladimir Putin lowered the threshold for Moscow to use its nuclear weapons.

The change allows Russia to respond with nuclear weapons if it's attacked by any state using conventional weapons, including missiles, drones and aircraft.

But Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has said that Putin's nuclear threats will not prevent the UK from backing Ukraine.

He said: “This is irresponsible rhetoric coming from Russia and that is not going to deter our support for Ukraine.

“We’re now on day 1,000 of a conflict – that’s 1,000 days of Russian aggression, 1,000 days of sacrifices in Ukraine.

"We have stood with Ukraine from the start. I’ve been doubling down in my clear message that we need to ensure Ukraine has what is needed for as long as needed to win this war against Putin.”
