Meghan Markle’s tailor shared what happened in Princess Kate dress row | Royal | News

Meghan Markle’s tailor has shared what really happened in the famous row over the bridesmaid dresses before the duchess’s 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.

Last year, the dress tailor who sorted the dresses spoke out for the first time since Meghan and Harry’s wedding in 2018 and shared exactly what happened to cause such a fall out between Meghan, 43, and Princess Kate, 42

Originally, it had been reported that Meghan was the one who had made Princess Kate upset, however the Duchess of Sussex, 43, implied this was actually the other way round.

Prince Harry also suggested this was the case in his 2023 memoir Spare, where he said his wife was left “sobbing” after the disagreement between the sister-in-laws.

According to the tailor Ajay Mirpuri, the atmosphere leading up to the wedding was so tense that he was "not surprised" the situation ended in tears.

The 46-year-old told the Daily Mail that he worked around the clock with three members of his staff to finish the dresses after it was discovered that none of the six bridesmaids' dresses fitted as they should have done.

Mr Mirpuiri told Daily Mail: "I've no idea what measurements Givenchy had received, but with our experience and knowledge we could see straight away that all six bridesmaids' dresses had to be fixed, as they weren't going to fit.”

The tailor did confirm that he did not see the actual argument, but that weddings can be stressful times for family members.

He said: "If anything happened in the background, it didn't happen in front of me.

"But yes, weddings are stressful at the best of times – and especially one at this high level; you've got to respect that.

“They were faced with a problem like anyone gets at a wedding, with last-minute hitches. I can understand why anybody would be upset if the dresses weren't fitting – it's nerve-wracking.”

As well as both Princess Kate and Meghan Markle reportedly being upset, the dress saga also made Princess Charlotte, who was a bridesmaid at the wedding, cry.

In his memoir Spare, Harry alleged that the row began when Kate sent Meghan a text that Charlotte was crying because her dress was "too big, too long, too baggy". The Waleses have never commented on these specific allegations.

Princess Kate and Meghan Markle are no longer believed to be on speaking terms, especially after the 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, followed by the 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan. Kate has not spoken publicly about the row or her sister-in-law across the pond.
