Youth services should have had a big budget boost | Autumn budget 2024Articles and letters (31 October) pointing out the harmful gaps in budget funding have still omitted a key service, namely youth services, where local council spending last year in England was 73% less than in 2010-11. These services will also now suffer the double whammy of increased national insurance contributions. I presumed the council cuts are because young people do not have the vote, but I am not sure why they miss out on inclusion in the Guardian. I was shocked to see this anatomical area referred to as “down there” (Everything you ever wanted to know about vaginas … but were too afraid to Google, 2 November). Anyone who has ever worked in a GP surgery knows that the correct terminology is “down below”. Your Saturday magazine front cover (2 November) had “Alan Bennett at 90” and “Vagina myths, busted”. Variety is the spice of life. Nauseating though it is to be confronted by the face of Boris Johnson staring out from his book cover, at least in a shop that I visited on Thursday it had been placed in the history section. Let’s hope it stays there. I read that limoncello is suddenly popular (‘It knocks your head off!’ How limoncello became a sudden, surprising, soaring success, 30 October). It’s certainly been popular with the back of my cupboard for years. Source link Posted: 2024-11-03 18:36:12 |
