Casemiro hits wondergoal in first Man Utd game after Ten Hag as Carragher left red-faced | Football | Sport

Casemiro netted a wondergoal for Manchester United during their League Cup clash against Leicester City as they began life without Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman was let go by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS following Sunday's defeat away to West Ham United.

Negotiations are ongoing with current Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, with Ruud van Nistelrooy placed in interim charge.

The ex-Red Devils' striker was handed an early gift by Casemiro, who curled home a Goal of the Season contender from 25 yards out early in the first half.

Alejandro Garnacho's clever work in the build-up eventually saw the ball drop to Casemiro, who wrapped his right foot around the ball and guided it into the top-right corner.

Wheeling away in celebration, the veteran Brazillian was smiling from ear to ear - contrasting emotions to one of his Old Trafford outings from earlier in the season.

Casemiro endured an afternoon to forget against United's rivals Liverpool, with the ex-Real Madrid star hooked at half-time by a seething Ten Hag.

It sparked a defiant rant from Sky Sports pundit Carragher, who blasted Casemiro's performance and claimed the midfielder ought to hang up his boots.

After Casemiro was deemed at fault for two of Liverpool's first-half goals, the ex-Reds star said: "Leave the football before it leaves you."

But on a frantic night of action in the League Cup fourth round, Casemiro showed the Old Trafford faithful the football very much hasn't left him just yet.

Alongside his stunning opener, Casemiro popped up with a second goal midway through what proved to be a six-goal half.

And on another day, he may have found himself with a half-time hat trick, after a header fell just wide of the Leicester far post.

But Casemiro's heroics were just one of several goals during the first half, with Garnacho backing up his assist for the opener with a tidy back-post finish of his own.

Bilal El Khannouss had reduced the deficit to 2-1 shortly before Casemiro netted his second of the evening, with Bruno Fernandes scoring his first goal of the campaign with a deflected free kick to make it 4-1 on the night.

Their three-goal advantage wouldn't last long though, with Conor Coady scrambling in from close range to make the half-time score 4-2.
