Michael Sheen's critically-acclaimed NHS drama is free to stream | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Theatre aficionados are in for a treat as National Theatre's stellar production of Nye, featuring the critically lauded performance by Michael Sheen, is set to stream at no charge next week.

Sheen, the esteemed Welsh actor known for his recent role in Amazon Prime's A Very Royal Scandal, delivers a tour-de-force portrayal in this dramatic retelling of the origins of our beloved NHS.

Set to air just as the government has promised to infuse the NHS with £1.57bn for new equipment and facilities to facilitate more appointments, the play explores the dynamic life of Aneurin 'Nye' Bevan, the relentless crusader behind the creation of the NHS.

Beginning from Thursday next week, viewers nationwide can immerse themselves in the powerful narrative, watching the Good Omens phenomenon grace the stage as he enacts a piece of British history that continues to resonate with pride across the nation.

In the wake of the successful 'Take Your Seats' campaign that marked the National Theatre's 60th anniversary in 2023, it once again offers audiences a chance to experience this captivating Welsh epic free of charge on its YouTube channel for a limited five-day viewing, reports Wales Online.

Authored by Tim Price with direction by Rufus Norris, Nye is described as "a surreal and spectacular journey through the life and legacy of the creator of the NHS".

To ensure accessibility for all, the free streaming will also include Audio Description and British Sign Language options.

Teasing the drama's scope, the synopsis states: "Confronted with death, Nye's deepest memories lead him on a mind-bending journey back through his life, from childhood to mining underground, Parliament and fights with Churchill in an epic Welsh fantasia."

Michael has been riding a wave of activity, having recently portrayed Prince Andrew in A Very Royal Scandal alongside Ruth Wilson, embodying Emily Maitlis.

Adding to the excitement, he's hinted at a "satisfying ending" for the beloved series Good Omens, where he'll reprise his role opposite David Tennant for the show's conclusive third season on Amazon Prime, with fans eagerly awaiting the official release date.

Watch Nye any time between November 7-11 on The National Theatre’s streaming platform, National Theatre at Home.

Following the free stream, Nye will join over 80 titles already on National Theatre at Home available to subscribers from £9.99 (monthly) or £99.99 (annually). New subscribers can access 50% off their first two months with code NYE50.
