Surprise Sky boost offers more UK homes a new way to watch TV

You might think Sky and BT-owned EE would be fierce rivals but the two firms have just announced a surprise joint update. The partnership means shoppers heading to EE stores - and its website - can now order and add Sky Stream to their plans. This latest service from Sky offers an easy way to watch live and on-demand content with homes simply plugging this diddy device into their tellies to get instant access to hundreds of channels and endless boxsets.

Sky Stream doesn't require a dish with it using a broadband connection instead that means no engineer needs to visit and the picture quality isn't affected by conditions such as the weather. It includes fast access to all the most popular streaming apps and even offers personalised recommendations to help find content faster. There's no hard disk inside but things can be stored to watch at a later date via the useful Playlists feature.

EE has confirmed that introducing Sky Stream will enhance its current TV portfolio which includes its own EE TV box and Apple TV. This it hopes will give its users more choices when signing up for premium television services.

Sky Stream will be available to purchase from EE both with EE home broadband and mobile with prices starting from £28 per month for Sky Entertainment and Netflix.

Speaking about the changes, Marc Allera, CEO at EE said: “As part of our strategy for new EE, we’re continually looking to partner with some of the world’s leading brands to provide our customers with the very best in entertainment. Extending our partnership with Sky allows us to give customers even greater choice, so they can take a TV service that best suits their lifestyle, matched with EE’s great new home broadband offering.”

And Sophia Ahmad, Chief Consumer Officer at Sky, added: “Sky Stream offers a transformative viewing experience, making it even easier for customers to access Sky’s market-leading entertainment offer, with no dish required. We’re excited to be partnering with EE to take the benefits of Sky Stream into the front rooms of even more customers, bringing them one of the highest standards in viewing experience combined with great live sport and award-winning Sky Originals all in one place.”

In summary Express.co.uk said about this about: "If you're looking for a hassle-free way to watch live Sky TV channels, exclusive boxsets, streaming services, sports and movies – Sky Stream does not disappoint.

"This diddy device offers access to 100 paid-for channels you won't find on Freeview, as well as the most popular terrestrial channels. Everything is beamed to your television in High Definition as standard – something Sky Q customers still need to pay extra for – without a satellite dish drilled into your walls or engineers trudging through your home.

"The end of the satellite dish has never been closer, we just hope Sky irons out the final few quirks with its new Sky Stream box before it hammers the final nail into its coffin."
