How to keep potatoes fresh for 'up to 6 months' without spoilagePotatoes are the base of many hearty dishes and one of the most versatile accompaniments in the culinary world. That’s why, when storing this beloved vegetable at home, knowing where and how to keep it can go a long way. Food blogger Jerry James Stone has the perfect solution to help you achieve the ideal conditions to keep your potatoes fresh for up to half a year. The secret lies in creating the right environment and using effective storage methods that maintain their quality and flavour. According to Jerry, proper potato storage is quite simple: they thrive in dark, cool places. "Storing potatoes is pretty simple," said Jerry. "For the most part... [potatoes] like being in a dark, cool place." He recommends using a brown paper bag for storage, ensuring it remains open for ventilation. "Store them in a brown paper bag," Jerry suggested. "Just a brown paper bag, opened up." "You don't want to store them in plastic and you definitely don't want to store them in a sealed plastic bag, because they don't like the moisture." Jerry explained: "When they're stored in a brown paper bag, you want to keep that bag open, and place it somewhere that's a cool and sort of well-ventilated dark place." The ideal temperature for storing potatoes is between seven to 10C, which prevents premature sprouting. Jerry emphasises that any area in your home or garage that maintains this consistent temperature is perfect for potato storage. He claimed: "Potatoes can last up to three months this way; I've even had them last for up to six months and still keep fresh." Source link Posted: 2024-10-10 16:14:30 |
