'Best' paint colour for garden fences that makes space look bigger and 'brand new'

For those of us with gardens that aren't as big or as impressive as we would like, there are thankfully plenty of ways to maximise the space and make it look a lot fresher.

Giving a new lick of paint to your garden fence is a great way to give your outdoor space a new lease of life.

And when it comes to choosing the colour, making the right decision could also really help maximise the space and create the illusion of a bigger garden.

Experts from paint company Tikkurila have gathered together some tips for gardeners on the very best and most popular colours for your fence.

They've named a few different palettes that are great for making your space appear bigger, giving it a new lease of life and making it look 'like new'.

White

The experts said: "If you're looking to create the illusion of space, it's tempting to reach for whites when repainting fence panels. While a coat of white paint will certainly refresh your fence panels, it's the only way to make a small space feel bigger."

Cream

According to the experts, cream paint is a great way cream to give your garden a light and airy feel, while also providing your flowerbeds and shrubbery with a brilliant backdrop.

Green

The pros said: "Green is also ideal for giving the impression of more square footage than you actually have. For best results, stick with a shade that's lighter than your lawn. You want to avoid overwhelming existing plant life and shrubbery with an identical hue.

"Furthermore, green is incredibly versatile. It will work nicely with greys and monochromes, as well as natural stains. As such, you'll have no issues when reconfiguring your garden with new outdoor furniture or decorative pieces."

Grey

This is a very easy, fuss-free colour choice for your outdoor space.

Cool and modern, grey paint is perfect for transforming tired-looking fences and will provide you with a pretty background for plants and greenery.

Brown

An earthy colour scheme will work well in just about any garden.

If you're looking to create a colour bond with your flowers, trees and natural features, earthy browns make the perfect choice for fence panel paint jobs.

But if you're looking to rejuvinate fence panels made from lighter wood varieties, a natural wood stain may be a better option than paint.
