'I went to one of the best afternoon teas in the UK and one item stood out'Taking a trip to The Kensington, located in west London, Brits can experience the Art of Afternoon Tea. The five-star hotel not only offers customers the chance to enjoy dining at its best but also strip back and enjoy British traditions. The Kensington has elevated afternoon tea into a true art form with an experience like no other. Inspired by some of the most renowned artists the world has ever seen, The Art of Afternoon Tea will indulge your tastebuds thanks to its classic pairings. Diners can enjoy a collection of carefully curated concoctions such as the ‘Girl with the Balloon’ cocktail, inspired by the work of artist Banksy. A mix of the contemporary and the abstract, The Kensington’s culinary team have created a gallery of sweets which also pay homage to other influential artists including Jackson Pollock, Yayoi Kusama and Alicja Kwade. Those dining at The Kensington can enjoy the abstract expressionism of Pollock’s famed ‘drip technique’ adorning the dark chocolate mousse tart with passion fruit parfait. There is also Japanese artist Kusama’s playful polka-dot pumpkin made up of mango mousse surrounding coconut yoghurt cream. Finally, there's a replica of contemporary visual artist Kwade’s natural spheres constructed from white chocolate vanilla mousse with pineapple compote centre. All of which were delicious and too good to eat. Let's not forget delicate finger sandwiches where diners can enjoy the likes of smoked salmon with lemon cream cheese, cucumber with mint cream, and pastrami with gherkin and horseradish. Of course, it wouldn't be an afternoon team with the likes of warm, fresh-baked plain and fruit scones. They can be enjoyed with homemade strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream which is a true highlight of the tea and can certainly taste the difference. The jam and clotted cream certainly stood out. There is also a selection of three teas to enjoy from The Rare Tea Company including breakfast, Earl Grey and cloud tea, which is from India and tastes light and florally without the need for milk.
