Tackle window condensation with 65p remedy and 'no gadgets needed'

Condensation is a significant problem in the UK, with one in five properties affected, according to experts at Rentokil.

This common problem is the consequence of high humidity indoors and is worse between October and April, but it depends on the temperature.

While some window experts claim that replacing glass panes is the only long-term fix for condensation, a TikTok content creator has shared the best instant remedy.

The brains behind the TikTok account @‌blooms_abode proposed leaving one ingredient by your window to eradicate excess moisture.

The simple hack calls upon bicarbonate of soda to banish condensation problems on windows, cabinets, cupboards and even wardrobes experiencing damp problems.

The TikToker explained that when left unchecked, excess moisture on windows triggers the growth of mould and mildew, paving the way for other structural issues in your home.

This technique is much more straightforward, however, with "no gadgets needed", as put by the home hacks fanatic.

For the hack, she started by opening blinds and curtains first thing in the morning, then leaving the small pot of bicarbonate of soda by the window sill.

For an extra touch, the self-proclaimed cleaning expert recommended treating the windowsill with mould spray, specifically the Astonic Mould and Mildew Blaster, though many other sprays are equally as effective.

She suggested doing so on a fortnightly basis, or more frequently if black spots appear in between.

Additionally, the bicarbonate of soda should be emptied and replaced with a fresh pot when it “eventually goes hard”, typically after a month, according to @‌blooms_abode.

With more than 60,000 followers invested in @‌blooms_abode's handy cleaning hacks, the bicarbonate of soda method is a surefire way to tackle condensation.

The best part is, the ingredient can be purchased in Tesco and Asda for just 65p - a complete bargain.

Some TikTok users suggested different ways to tackle household condensation but the cleaning expert defended her method as the best.

One suggestion was to use washing up liquid on a dry cloth to clean residual mould, but the TikTok cleaning maestro warned: “It wrecks things. The water just sticks to other things in the house.”

Others praised the condensation remedy, with one person commenting: “Thank you so much for that hack I'm delighted I never thought of using that spray on the windows before.”

Another commented: “Just done what you said… needed this badly.”
