Harvester, Domino's and Spar food product recall: urgent 'do not eat' warning

Food supplier FGS Ingredients Ltd alerted its customers to a number of products that need to be taken off the shelves at supermarkets and off the menu at restaurants.

Many food items, sold at the likes of Harvester, Domino's and Spar all around the UK, could cause health issues if eaten.

The FSA clarified: "FGS Ingredients Ltd is recalling a number of products containing mustard powder because they may contain peanuts.

"This means these products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts. These products are sold under several different brand names at several different retail stores."

People who have a peanut allergy may develop symptoms within a few days of eating contaminated food, or symptoms might appear immediately.

The NHS said symptoms of a food allergy can include:

  • Feeling dizzy or lightheaded
  • Itchy skin or a raised rash
  • Swelling of the lips, face and eyes
  • Coughing, wheezing, breathlessness, noisy breathing or a hoarse voice
  • Sneezing or an itchy, runny or blocked nose
  • Feeling sick or being sick
  • Tummy pain
  • Diarrhoea.

A serious allergic reaction "may need immediate treatment in hospital" as it could be life-threatening for some people.

Among brands most recently involved in alerts about the undeclared peanut contamination is Tim Horton’s BBQ Sauce dip, which is served at the Tim Horton food chain.

Harvester BBQ Sauce, Spar coleslaw, Spar macaroni cheese, Spar chicken and bacon sandwich filler and Spar tuna and sweetcorn sandwich filler may contain traces of peanuts.

Additional food items affected include: Spar cheese and onion sandwich filler, Spar onion and garlic dip, Spar sour cream and chive dip, and Spar tuna and corn pasta salad.

Further Spar food items that have been recalled include chicken and bacon pasta salad; chicken, honey and mustard pasta salad; and Spar's BLT sandwich.

The full list of affected food items can be found on the FSA website and here.
