Summer is long gone and now the UK is bracing for three days of storms from Friday to Sunday including thunder, lightning and heavy rain.

Yellow weather warnings have been issued for much of the UK from today, particularly in England, with the south of England the worst affected alongside Wales.

As a result, those expecting inclement weather are being urged to take care and ensure they are prepared for the worst if it does arrive this Sunday when a heavy rain warning is in place.

Met Office advice on extreme weather and flooding says households should move valuables up high, including electrical devices - presumably expensive ones like tablets, phones and laptops - as well as important documents.

Households experiencing flooding are also told to charge their phone, move their car and in extreme cases, turn off gas, water and electricity supplies.

The flooding advice says; “It's never too late to take action and prepare for flooding. Follow these 6 simple steps to protect your home or business: Check the flood advice in your area to know when and where flooding will happen. Charge mobile phone devices. Park your car outside the flood zone. Prepare a flood kit to help you cope in the event of flooding to your home and business. Store valuables up high, including electrical devices, important documents and furniture. Turn off gas water and electricity supplies"

The Met Office’s forecast for Sunday says: “Whilst the strongest signal for impactful rainfall totals appears to be centred across east Wales and west-central England, there is potential right across this highlighted region for some areas to see 30-50 mm in less than 6 hours, with a few places receiving 60-80mm over the course of 12-24 hours.

“Southwest England looks likely to see some heavy rain during the early hours of Sunday morning, breaking up into slow-moving, heavy and in places thundery downpours during the day time. Meanwhile, the areas of heavy rain are likely to continue pushing north and west, becoming slow moving across some northern and possibly eastern reaches of the warning area during the rest of Sunday.

“Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
