Trump shooting fears: Suspect 'pushed muzzle through fence' | World | News

An AK-47 with a scope, a Go-Pro and two backpacks were recovered from the scene of a suspected assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Florida.

Secret Service agents opened fire on a person poking an AK-47 through a fence line at Trump's West Palm Beach golf club at around 1.30pm US time today.

In a press conference at 5pm, Palm Beach Sheriff Rick Bradshaw said the suspect was apprehended on the I-95 after being spotted running out of bushes by a witness and jumping into a black Nissan SUV.

"After that we took the witness and he identified him as the person seen running out of the bushes and jumping into a car," Bradshaw said.

The Go-Pro recovered was attached to the other side of the fence, investigators said.

The FBI said it is investigating “what appears to be an attempted assassination.”

Breaking his silence shortly after, Trump said in an email to fundraisers "gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!"

The disturbing incident at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach comes amid an ongoing investigation into a July 13 assassination attempt on Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
