Virgin Media offers upgrade Fire TV Stick users have enjoyed for years

Virgin Media users are getting an extra treat this week thanks to the launch of the MUBI app. This streaming service has been available for a while on devices such as Amazon's Fire TV Stick, the Apple TV box and Samsung tellies. However, both Sky and Virgin Media refrained from joining the party but that's just changed with Virgin confirming it's now letting customers sign into the new MUBI platform right from their set-top box.

To make things even better, the usual £11.99 MUBI price has been dropped by 70 percent when signing up via Virgin (or through Priority from O2) with that lower cost lasting for the first three months.

Never heard of MUBI? This global streaming service has a library of more than one thousand films including Priscilla, Aftersun and La Chimera and every day customers can choose hand-picked recommendations curated thematically.

"MUBI is a place to discover ambitious films by visionary filmmakers. From iconic directors to emerging auteurs. All carefully chosen by MUBI’s curators," the streaming service confirmed on its website.

This update means Virgin now beats Sky as it's not yet available on devices such as Sky Stream, Sky Glass or Sky Q.

Speaking about the change, David Bouchier, Chief TV and Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media O2, said: “We are delighted to add the movie-lover’s destination MUBI to our entertainment line-up. Not only does it provide 24/7 access to incredible, award-winning films, but Virgin TV customers can benefit from an exclusive discount so they can sit back, relax and enjoy extra savings while they watch.”

Along with cheap access, it's also been confirmed that Priority members have an exclusive opportunity to win an invitation to a special screening with MUBI. Virgin TV customers who would like the chance to enter should keep an eye on the Priority app over the coming weeks.

Although Sky users can't get MUBI access they can now tune into hundreds of shows via the recently launched U app.

For those not in the know, U is the new name for UKTV. This popular platform had a major revamp back in July in a bid to align channels such as Dave (now called U&Dave, W (now U&W), Yesterday (now U&Yesterday) and Drama (now U&Drama).

Once U is opened from the home screen, Sky users will find endless on-demand episodes of top-rated shows such as Gavin and Stacey, Top Gear, Have I Got News For You, Masterchef and Would I Lie To You.
