Snooker star Mark Williams took to social media to declare “I am crap” midway through his Saudi Arabian Masters final with Judd Trump, having trailed 5-3 at the interval.

A disappointing start from the Welshman saw him go down 4-1 early, but he clawed his way back to 4-3 only to lose the final frame of the session and hand his opponent a two-frame lead.

And Williams, 49, was far from impressed with his own performance as he took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to brutally analyse his time at the table, simply writing "I am crap" accompanied by a sunglasses emoji.

He posted a string of messages during the break in play, a selfie captioned: "Well I enjoyed them 4 frames," and: "Face of a man who just hit more cushions than pots."

He also responded to a fan who explained further that the "heavy" tables in Riyadh, where the top prize is £500,000, suit players who hit the balls harder. Williams responded by claiming that such tables suit players such as Trump.

However, he was able to get the first frame on the board in the evening session, cutting the world No. 1's lead to just one.

And although Trump moved to within four frames of his second title of the new season, the three-time world champion showed his resistance with a century to take the very next frame in an exciting final.

Heading into the final, Williams revealed that his eyesight is continuing to deteriorate but was upbeat about his level of performance, having reached the final of another prestigious event.

“It’s a big win for me," Williams said after defeating Si Jiahui in the semi-final. "I’m an old man now! I think it is bound to get me in everything up until after the Tour Championship now.

“My eyes are deteriorating pretty quickly. On long balls I am seeing three of them but they say to hit the one in the middle and that’s what I’m doing. I have looked at getting my eyes done, but I’m guessing alright at the moment so I’m not going to bother.

“I think I’m a better all-round player than I was 20 years ago. I wish I could have my long game from then, but I think all round I’m better now than I’ve ever been. That is what is winning me the matches.”
