Rare coins are currently a hot topic, but do you have this unique £2 design in your pocket?

It's always worth rummaging through your collection as you never know what treasures might be hiding away. Recently, one lucky chap struck gold after discovering the UK's rarest 50p coin in his stash.

The Atlantic Salmon design, featuring King Charles III on the reverse, is highly sought-after. These coins are now fetching hundreds of pounds, with one recently selling on eBay for a cool £153.

Now, TikTok users are being urged to forget about the 20p and 50p coins and keep their eyes peeled for a special £2 coin that recently fetched hundreds at auction.

User @CoinCollectingWizard, who boasts a following of 191,400, highlighted the 2016 Shakespeare's Tragedies £2 coin which sold for an impressive £123, around 60 times its face value.

These coins were minted to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the poet's death.

Each of the three coins pays tribute to a different genre of Shakespeare's works tragedies, comedies and histories. So, what makes this coin so special?

The user explained: "It's a hard to spot error affecting the edge of the coin that has attracted interest from collectors.

"Instead of the standard edge inscription, which should read, 'What a piece of work is a man', this one has the words from another £2 coin around the edge. Mint errors like this one can add significant value to common coins."

It's worth noting the error coin will have the edge inscription for king and country.

A flurry of excitement has been sparked among fans as the video went viral. Garnering over 200 likes and numerous comments since its posting two days ago, one viewer exclaimed: "Wow."
