Prince Harry's 'omission' in book threatens King Charles truce | Royal | News

Prince Harry’s paperback version of his bombshell autobiography Spare has one glaring omission that could threaten a reconciliation, says one royal expert.

Later this year, a new paperback version of Spare will be released almost two years after the book's original release in January 2023.

There were an array of controversial claims that Harry levelled at his family - from a physical altercation with Prince William to a revelation that King Charles was jealous of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The paperback version, however, will not include any new material and one royal expert believes this is a glaring error and missed opportunity.

Royal expert and historian Dr Tessa Dunlop said: "To repeat his sales success, Harry needed to give us something new.

“His decision not to is indicative of a less impetuous Prince, but one no nearer royal reconciliation. The paperback’s unchanged text is in line with the Duke’s pledge to move on from looking back,” reports The Mirror.

However, Dr Dunlop said the lack of an update could actually make relations between the two families worse - saying those who think the decision “is an olive branch are sadly mistaken”.

She added: “New material can be conciliatory. Harry might have taken the lead and opened with a different prologue, fore-fronting his regret about how things turned out, and reiterating his good wishes for Kate and the King.

"That he has decided to stay schtum is indicative of the cold war which persists within the Royal Family.”

The paperback version is set to be released in the US on October 22, becoming available in the UK just two days later.

The release will, however, clash with the King's high-profile appearance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa. The meeting will take place between October 21 and 25.

Despite his ongoing cancer treatment, Buckingham Palace said in July that the King was still planning on attending the meeting - as well as going on a tour in Australia in October.

The re-issue of Spare is sure to reignite the major bombshells revealed in the hardback version. Since the first release, the King has been diagnosed with cancer and Harry has paid a few visits to the UK.
