There's "something you probably already have in your kitchen" that can effectively get rid of patio weeds without the need for aggressively pulling them up.

While boiling hot water, white vinegar and salt can remove patio weeds, there's one ingredient you could be overlooking.

According to Gardening Story, who posted a video to YouTube, baking soda can "destroy weeds naturally".

Gardening Story elaborated: "Baking soda isn't just for baking cookies or freshening up your fridge. It's a powerful, natural weed killer too."

Baking soda "works because it is a salt that dehydrates and destroys plants cells".

The gardening expert explained: "When you apply [baking soda] to weeds, it draws out moisture, effectively killing the weed from the roots up."

This natural weed killer is "safe for the surrounding soil and plants when used correctly".

How to correctly use baking soda to only remove weeds

What you need:

• Baking soda
• Small flour sifter
• Spray bottle filled with water
• Gardening gloves

The first thing you need to do is identify the weeds you want to target, then spray "a little water" on the weeds you want to get rid of.

"This helps the baking soda stick better," the expert explained; speaking of which, put the baking soda in the flour sifter (or sieve).

"Then simply just the baking soda over the leaves [of the damp weeds] and around the base of the weed." Not a lot of baking soda is needed, "just a light, even coating", the expert suggested.

"Wait and watch the magic happen," the expert beamed. "In a few days, you should start to see the weeds shrivel and die."

Stubborn weeds might need reapplication of baking soda after a week. "It's affordable, eco-friendly, and it really works," the expert concluded.
