Jermaine Jenas 'axed from second job' while live on air after BBC sacking | Football | Sport

Jermaine Jenas was scheduled to host talkSPORT Drive's live show on Friday evening but will no longer be doing so after his sudden sacking from the BBC, according to reports. Jenas surprised listeners by appearing on talkSPORT just minutes after news of his Beeb dismissal emerged on Thursday.

The Daily Mail report that the One Show and Match of the Day presenter has been sacked for inappropriate behaviour after complaints about his 'workplace conduct'.

It's claimed that complaints were filed a few weeks ago, prompting the BBC to take action. Jenas appears to have also been removed from agency MC Saatchi's website.

Just moments after his sacking became public knowledge, Jenas was working as normal alongside Darren Bent, Jermaine Pennant and Aaron Lennon in the talkSPORT studio.

However, the Mail add that plans for the 41-year-old to feature on talkSPORT Drive at the same time on Friday have now been changed.

At the start of the show, Jenas suggested that he was standing in for usual host Andy Goldstein, saying: "We're here aren't we? They have chucked me right into the hot seat."

Alex Kay-Jelski, the head of BBC Sport, reportedly confirmed the decision to dismiss Jenas in an email to staff on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a public BBC statement read: "We can confirm Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting line-up."

The former Newcastle, Tottenham and England midfielder works as a co-commentator for TNT Sports and BBC Sport, appearing on commentary and as a pundit for the broadcaster at Euro 2024.

He has also been hotly tipped to replace Gary Lineker as the host of Match of the Day amid recent exit rumours, having hosted the show's spin-off, MOTDx.

The father of four - who married his wife Ellie in 2011 - has admitted he would be interested in succeeding Lineker if the opportunity arose.

"I would obviously be up for it… it's Match of the Day, and it would be a great opportunity," he said in April 2023.

"I haven't thought that far ahead, but I hosted Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night, which was the first one I've ever done. I loved it, it felt comfortable to me, it felt normal, and I love doing The One Show as well.

"I feel quite blessed that I'm even in people's minds that it's something I could take on given how big the show actually is.

"Gary has got plenty of legs in him and I don't see him going anywhere soon but when that day comes which it will do, I would like to think that I am at least thought about to fill the position. If that is the case then I would obviously jump at it."

Jenas' media career has branched away from football, too, after landing a gig as a presenter on The One Show in 2020.

He later became one of the show's permanent hosts and last featured alongside Alex Jones on the sofa on July 22, interviewing popstar Will Young.
