Waitrose plans to open 100 new convenience shops across the UKWhen it comes to food shopping there are plenty of supermarkets to choose from depending on your budget, convenience or preference. Supermarket chain Waitrose has announced plans to open 100 new convenience shops in the UK. The supermarket retailer, which already has 329 shops across the UK, will roll out the new stores in the next five years. Waitrose will open the shops across locations in England, Wales and Scotland but hasn't announced where exactly they will be. However, the first shop will be in London's Hampton Hill which will open later this year. A Waitrose spokesperson said: "We know the opportunity is there yet we have currently only circa 45 little Waitrose convenience shops." The supermarket explained they will be investing £1billion on the expansion plans and to improve the existing 329 stores. Clive Black, an analyst at Shore Capital, commented: "Such stores are easier to gain planning permission with greater site availability than traditional, larger, supermarkets whilst they are also cheaper and quicker to develop." Aldi recently announced it will open four new stores by the end of the year. These supermarkets will be located in Leytonstone and Beckton, and are set to open in the next couple of months. Holloway Road and Muswell Hill are also gearing up to welcome new Aldi stores. The openings will see the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket create more than 150 new jobs in the capital. The company has also said it will open even more stores in 2025 to help bring lower food prices to London. Source link Posted: 2024-08-21 17:13:02 |
