Meghan Markle's event in Colombia disrupted by heckler | Royal | News

The event at which Meghan Markle delivered a speech on August 18 was disrupted by a heckler.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex began the last day of their quasi-royal tour in Colombia by attending the Afro Women and Power conference in Cali.

The forum, centred on highlighting and uplifting Afro-Colombian women, featured a panel of experts as well as a heartfelt address by Meghan, who took centre stage alongside the vice president of Colombia, Francia Marquez, who invited the Sussexes to her country.

After Meghan's speech, which featured a sweet tribute to her three-year-old daughter Princess Lilibet Diana and mother Doria Ragland, it was Ms Marquez's turn to speech.

But her moment was abruptly interrupted by a heckler among the audience, who asked a question about trans rights.

Ms Marquez responded: "I'm talking about women in general. We've got a programme for trans women as well."

The audience member than sat down, and was allowed to stay in her seat for the rest of the event.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry began their tour in Columbia on 18 August and were said to have been in high spirits when they arrived.

The Sussex's listened attentively through headsets before Meghan took to the stage for her speech.

She stunned the audience by speaking in Spanish. Meghan went on to talk about her daughter, Princess Lilibet Diana and her mother, Doria Ragland, who was described by the duchess as her main inspiration.

Speaking about Princess Lilibet, she said: "I encourage our daughter. At three she has found her voice and we are so proud of that."
Doria was the only member of Meghan's family to be present at her wedding. Meghan continued: "For me I find inspiration in so many of the strong women around me,"

"My mother being one of them. Life is full of surprises and can be quite complex.'"

Today is the final day of the tour in Columbia. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were invited by the country's vice president after she saw their documentary on Netflix, Harry & Meghan, and heard about the duchess's life story which deeply touched her.

Ms Marquez, the first black woman in the country to hold the position of vice president, opened up about the reason behind the couple's invitation during a press conference.
