Top 20 movies that make Brits cry unveiled in new poll – Men have different No 1 | Films | EntertainmentMovies can cause all kinds of emotions in us from laughing in joy to screaming in terror, but when did you last cry genuine sad tears at a film? Vision Direct commissioned a new survey of 2000 Brits to find out, giving them a list of 50 films to discover which made them shed a tear. Coming out of top with 29.8 per cent of the vote was James Cameron’s Titanic. This shouldn’t be too surprising given the depiction of the ship’s real life maiden voyage sinking, alongside the death of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack, who had just fallen in love with Kate Winslet’s Rose. Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson’s Marley and Me was a very close second on 29 per cent given the incredibly sad ending. Yet it turns out that the overall No 3 with 28.3 per cent of the vote was No 1 tearjerker among men. The film that came top with men was Stephen King’s The Green Mile, about a wrongly convicted man on death row. Meanwhile, the devastating Holocaust movies The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (18.8 per cent) and Schindler’s List (18 per cent) were in fourth and fifth place respectively. And the top voted Disney movie was The Lion King, featuring Mufasa’s murder, on 16.8 per cent in sixth. As to why Brits cry when watching films, it was the death of a fictional character that turned out to be the main driver, with 60 per cent of these polled having shed a tear over such a tragic moment in a movie, TV show or book.
