Watch out Apple and Samsung - Google's Pixel Watch gets biggest ever upgrade

The Apple Watch and latest Samsung Galaxy Watch now have another new rival to fend off with Google announcing the official launch of its latest and greatest wearable. The all-new Pixel Watch 3 has just been uncovered during a 'Made by Google' launch event in California with the US tech firm boasting that this is its 'biggest' ever update to this device.

One of the main differences in 2024 is that the Pixel Watch 3 now comes in two sizes, 41mm and bigger 44mm (there was just one option before).

Apple has long offered different styles of its popular Watch and Google clearly feels the time is now right to offer more choice to consumers. Along with getting bigger, the new circular displays are also brighter which should make seeing the time in the midday sun a little easier plus Google has slimmed down the bezels allowing a little extra space for content.

When it's time for bed, the screen automatically dims to save power plus there's now an adaptive refresh rate as well which also cuts down on the juice being used each day.

Google is boasting that all of this tech, combined with new Wear OS 5 software, will mean users will easily get 24-hours of usage without going near a plug. When heading away for the weekend there's also a Battery Saver Mode that extends things to around 36 hours plus the Pixel Watch 3 features much faster refilling.

Of course, wearables are all about health and fitness tracking and Google is confident that it has plenty of features to help users stay fit.

Along with all the usual data, such as how many calories have been burnt or steps taken, the Pixel Watch 3 is able to give wearers a Daily Readiness, Cardio Load, and Target Load stats as well.

These metrics give advice on how well rested the body is, if a person is training too much - or too little - as well as getting a personalised target to reach.

Google says all these insights come together in the new Fitbit Morning Brief, making it easy to plan each morning, with a daily digest delivered proactively on the wrist when waking up.

Another exercise function will definitely be welcomed by budding runners with this new watch able to offer guidance and help when popping on those trainers.

There are goals for distance, time, pace, or heart rate zone, and users can easily create repeats for interval runs.

During the jog around the park, it will provide haptic feedback and audio guidance so you owners will know when a warm up is done, when they are on pace and if their heart rate target is exceeded. After a run, Pixel Watch 3 even helps analyse form.

As well as checking exercise, the Pixel Watch 3 will keep an eye the body including the heart and one addition, called Loss of Pulse Detection, could be a real lifesaver.

This kicks in should the owner's heart stop beating with a device then able to call the emergency automatically and give a precise location.

Other extras include being able to use the Watch to control devices such as TVs and smart home cameras plus it can unlock and start certain cars including BMWs and the new MINI.

Sound enticing? Google says the Pixel Watch 3 will be available to pre-order today and starts from £349.
