How to get rid of moles that are 'damaging your lawn'

This year moles have been very active and causing damage to all types of lawns.

They leave surface tunnels and large mounds of soil across the garden if left unchecked, which leaves it in an unhappy state.

I remove the mole hill mounds of soil with a spade or shovel to leave a flat surfaced patch.

This leaves a bare patch of soil that will stay unsightly until it has grass on it once again.

I hand sow grass seeds onto the patch and use some of the mound soil to quilt the grass seeds, then I give it a gentle water.

If the grass seed has sunlight, warmth and moisture it will germinate within a week at this time of year.

We should always clear mole hills before cutting the lawn, otherwise we will spread the soil across a larger area of the lawn. As mole hills appear you will need to repeat the same clearing and sowing process to repair the patch.

Once the grass seed germinates continue to water it every few days and only cut it at about 5cm tall.

An organic way to deal with moles is to use an electronic device that makes a buzzing noise to deter the moles from that area.

If you want to do the same as me and repair thin and bare patches in your lawn then you can visit www.bostonseeds.com and use my Promo Code GWTLAWN2024 to get 10 percent off lawn grass seed, lawn fertilisers, mini handheld spreaders and drop spreaders.
