Sky Brown dislocates shoulder days before Olympic skateboarding event | Other | SportTeam GB hopeful Sky Brown has reportedly dislocated her shoulder just days before the women's park skateboarding event is set to get underway at the Paris Olympics. Brown became Great Britain’s youngest medallist in the history of the Olympic Games when she won bronze at the age of 13 and 28 days in Tokyo three years ago. Brown is one of the best young skateboarders in the world and has won a whole host of competition medals during the early stages of her career. The 16-year-old, who also surfs, is sponsored by Nike and previously won Dancing with the Stars: Juniors when she was 10. According to the Daily Mail, Brown suffered the dislocation on Sunday, the day before she travelled to Paris. She is being attended to by Great Britain’s team doctors and physios and still intends to compete in the event, which is scheduled to begin at La Concorde next Tuesday. Brown qualified for the Olympics after finishing second in the Olympic Qualifier Series in Budapest in June. She was forced to miss the first qualifier after tearing the medial collateral ligament in her knee while she was filming a shoot in April. Pick up your ultimate guide to the Olympics! So this is just my time to really think about what I want to do next. It really puts a fire in my heart - it happens, it is part of life.” Ahead of the Olympics, Brown then shared a series of images to her Instagram page that charted her rise to the pinnacle of skateboarding. And in a message to her 1.3million followers, the teenager wrote: “What a journey, I’m thankful for every moment along the way, everything and everyone and all the memories. Now for the fun part… LET'S GO PARIS 2024!!!!” There are two different skateboarding disciplines at the Olympics - park and street. With male and female categories open for both disciplines, there are a total of four skateboarding events at the Games. Park skateboarding takes place on a varied course combining bowls and bends to help the athletes gather speed and perform tricks mid-air. Athletes compete in three 45 second runs and are judged on their ability to use the surfaces to gain height and perform a wide range of tricks in preliminary rounds and finals. A panel of five judges will each deliver a score, with the highest and the lowest being dropped. The three remaining scores are averaged together to get the total score for each run.
