Tesco, M&S, Asda and Iceland 'do not eat' warning issued on food




Several big supermarkets have issued product recalls over the past few weeks due to concerns over their safety.

Whether down to undeclared allergens or other potential dangers, food recalls are essential for keeping shoppers safe from harm. 

Shopping giants including M&S, Iceland, Asda, Tesco and Morrisons have all pulled different food items from their shelves in recent weeks, from crisps and snacks to condiments and pasta sauces. 

When this happens, an alert is issued by the Food Standards Agency, along with full details of the affected product and what to do if you've purchased it instore. 

Here is the full list of key product recalls you may have missed over the last few weeks that shoppers will be keen to know about. 

Dunnes Stores 

The newest product recall to land on the Food Standards Agency website concerns the Dunnes Stores Italian Tomato and Basil Pasta Sauce. This product contains milk making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance.

The product details are as follows: 

Pack size - 250g 

Batch code - 24285 

Use by - September 12, 2024 

If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

Asda 

Asda has issued a warning about the Extra Special Sea Salt & Chardonnay Wine Vinegar Hand Cooked Crisps 150g, with a barcode of 5057172821273 and a best before date of September 21, 2024. 

The supermarket chain said: "Asda is recalling the above Best Before Date Code of ASDA Extra Special Sea Salt & Chardonnay Wine Vinegar Hand Cooked Crisps 150g because packs contain milk (milk) which is not mentioned on the label.

"This means that the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk.

"If you have purchased Allergen Alert: ASDA Extra Special Sea Salt & Chardonnay Wine Vinegar Hand Cooked Crisps 150g with the above best before date, please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt. No other date codes are affected.

"We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you would like any further information, please contact Asda Customer Relations at 0800 952 0101."

Iceland 

Iceland is recalling Iceland 4 Golden Savoury Rice Steam Bags because they may contain crustaceans, fish, milk and molluscs that are not mentioned on the label.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to crustaceans and/or an allergy to fish and/or an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or an allergy to molluscs.

Any pack size of 600g with a best before date of November 16, 2025 is affected by this recall. 

If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to any Iceland store for a full refund. For more information contact Iceland Customer Services on 0800 328 0800. 

Marks and Spencer

This supermarket has issued a recall of its M&S Chocolate Cornflake Mini Bites because they contain hazelnuts (nuts), oats (gluten) and wheat (gluten), which are not mentioned on the label.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to hazelnuts (nuts) and/or for anyone with coeliac disease and/or an allergy or intolerance to oats, wheat or gluten.

The barcode number is 00347884, and the best before date is August 6, 2024. 

In a statement, M&S said: "Please do not consume this product if you have an allergy or intolerance to hazelnut, oats or wheatflour. If you wish to exchange the product, you can return it to your nearest store where a full refund will be given."

Morrisons

A popular brand of tahini - often used to make houmous - has been recalled. 

The Al’Fez Natural Tahini 160g/270g with all dates have been pulled from shelves due to the risk of a possible presence of Salmonella. According to the company, no other Al’Fez products are affected.

They said: "If you have one of the products detailed above which is within its best-before date window, please return it to the store for a full refund. You do not need a receipt.

"If you purchased it online, contact the Al’Fez consumer care team on (UK) 0800 0195 617, (ROI) 0044 800 0195 617 or at consumer.services@abworldfoods.com."

Tesco and Sainsbury's have also recalled this product.
