11p hack transforms dirty oven racks overnight - and it's not vinegar

Oven racks are notoriously difficult to clean, and often require expensive products filled with chemicals that feel like you're fumigating the entire kitchen.

Failing that, many Brits opt for a professional to come in and tackle the filth - but this can cost up to £100 which is simply unaffordable for many amid the cost of living crisis.

Luckily, fans of cleaning ace Mrs Hinch have discovered a no-scrub hack that promises to deliver some pretty impressive results for those grimy racks, without using a dishwasher.

Taking to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, which has more than 460,000 members, Gill Nanar raved about using dishwasher tablets to transform her dirty racks.

"I don't have a dishwasher so I soaked overnight in the bath - three disgusting racks," she said.

"I used eight tablets as [I] really didn't know the amount. This morning, I had hot soapy water and wiped them over. Brilliant."

Dozens of cleaning enthusiasts rushed to the comments section to hail the hack, with many pledging to try it out for themselves.

"Great, will do that next time," one user raved. Another agreed, commenting: "Yes, it's great.

They are so good for lots of grease and grimy things but not so many next time, save yourself a few pence," while a third added: "Good tip! I'll try that next time."

However, many users warned against using dishwasher tablets in the bathroom due to their 'corrosive' nature.

"Do they not damage your bath?" one person asked. Another wrote: "Crikey. Personally, I would not do it in the bath as dishwasher tablets are highly corrosive and will eventually damage your bath. You can buy a tray from Lakeland to soak the racks in."

A third offered: "I have a shallow plastic tray 8cm deep. Only use one dishwasher tablet, [it] works perfectly every time."

You can pick up a bag of dishwasher tablets from your nearest supermarket or general store.

Aldi, for example, is selling a 37-pack for £3.99 - which works out at just 11p per tablet. If you need a sturdy tray to wash your racks, you can buy this industrial-grade one from Amazon for £13.95.
