How to make delicious crispy fries that rival McDonald's

Potatoes, cooking oil and seasoning are all you need to make fries from scratch, but it doesn't guarantee restaurant-quality results.

Any fan of McDonald's signature thin, salty fries will know the taste and texture are nearly impossible to replicate at home.

However, one woman claims to have a solution in the form of a recipe that calls on an unusual addition - eggs.

Sharing her unique creation on YouTube, Sophie, founder of the channel 'Essen Recipes' said: "Today we are making potatoes and eggs. Better than fries! Don't go to McDonalds anymore. This is a very unusual recipe that you will love; crispy, very easy and delicious."

Essen's recipe calls for a simple list of ingredients; four medium potatoes, two eggs and some frying oil, plus the addition of some traditional spices.

Homemade fries recipe

Ingredients

Four medium potatoes, peeled and sliced

Two eggs

Frying oil

1/2 teaspoon salt

One teaspoon oregano

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

65g all-purpose flour

How to make Sophie's fries

Sophie starts by peeling the potatoes and then slicing them widthways to form large potato rounds. She then uses the same sharp knife to cut the potatoes into four rectangular slices that resemble fries.

It's easier to stack the potatoes round on top of one another and make these cuts to speed up the process.

The YouTube content creator then places the raw fries into a large mixing bowl along with enough tap water to submerge the potatoes.

After stirring the potatoes, she drains them and lays them flat on a clean tea towel before patting them until bone dry. Next, Sophie returns them to the empty bowl and cracks in two eggs.

Her next step is to add the seasoning and flour to the bowl and stir everything together until the fries are completely coated in the mixture.

Now to cook the fries, Sophie heats a large glug of oil (enough to submerge the chips), in a deep frying pan and cooks the raw fries for seven minutes over high heat.

Showing off the finished results, Sophie removes the chips from the frying pan with a slotted spoon to drain the oil before plating them up.

Fellow YouTube users who tried the recipe suggested air-frying the coated fries instead, claiming that they are "delicious" cooked this way.

A second person remarked: "A battered french fry, love it. This could go many many ways in the seasoning department." A third added: "Not only does it look good but the sound of those fries! Crispy!"
