UK weather: Brits facing weekend washout as Met Office sends warning | Weather | News

Millions of Brits are bracing themselves for a weekend washout throughout much of the UK this weekend, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning in one region.

The latest weather maps from WXCHARTS indicate a changeable pattern across the UK, with significant rainfall expected throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Southern England is experiencing cloudier skies with bands of rain moving eastward, particularly affecting the southwest later in the day.

As night falls this evening, heavy rain is forecast to sweep from southwest England towards central and eastern parts, lingering into the early hours, likely making conditions treacherous for drivers.

Northern and western Wales, as well as northeast Scotland, will also experience heavy showers or rain overnight.

A Yellow National Severe Weather Warning has been issued for northeast Scotland from 10pm Friday until 10am Saturday due to expected heavy rain, which may lead to travel disruptions.

Chief Meteorologist Frank Saunders from the Met Office explained: "An area of heavy and quite persistent rain will develop across parts of north and northeast Scotland later on Friday evening.

"This will continue overnight before turning showery on Saturday morning.

“It is possible that 20-30mm of rain is likely to fall quite widely in around 12 hours, but there could even be up to 50mm in a few areas."

The Met Office said the weather this weekend will remain unsettled with a mix of sunshine and showers across the country. Showers, potentially heavy and thundery, are expected, especially on Sunday.

Despite the unsettled conditions, sunny spells will offer brief periods of pleasant weather, with temperatures reaching around 18C to 19C in some areas.

The Met Office said in its latest forecast: "Saturday will be a mixed day with sunny spells and showers. Some of the showers will be heavy at times with the risk of hail and thunder. Breezy and cool.

"Sunny spells and heavy showers on Sunday."
