Serena Williams has opened up about her use of GLP-1 medication after showing off her amazing body transformation. The 43-year-old retired from tennis three years ago and has since given birth to her second child, Adira, who was born in August 2023.
Williams is one of the greatest tennis players to have ever graced the sport and ended her career with an incredible 23 Grand Slam titles to her name. She first enjoyed a period of dominance in the early 2000s alongside her sister Venus and triumphed at Wimbledon on seven occasions after lifting the trophy at the All England Club for the first time in 2002. The legendary player retired after the 2022 US Open, with her final Grand Slam triumph coming at the Australian Open in 2017.
Last month, Williams shared a series of pictures showing off her chiselled abs while working out in the gym.
She then posted pictures of herself wearing a blue bikini on a yacht, with the snaps initiating a string of comments about her appearance.
And Williams has admitted her use of GLP-1s through consumer healthcare company Ro has helped her get the body she wants.
“My whole life is being in the gym, working out, running, training, HIIT training, dancing - every single thing you can think of,” explained the blockbuster star during an interview with Vogue.
“I would always get to a certain point on the scale, but I could never get below that. That’s when I decided that it was time to try something different and got on the GLP-1 with Ro.
“I was putting in the work. I actually think it’s a problem a lot of other women can relate to, that you are in the gym and eating healthy but just can’t get to the level you want or need to. I feel lighter mentally, I feel sexier, I feel more confident.”
And Williams was quick to pour cold water on any negative connotations associated with the use of GLP-1s as she added: “I feel like a lot of people have this stigma on GLP-1s and say things like, ‘Oh, lazy people do it,’ or ‘If you’re working hard enough, you don’t need that.’
“I know for a fact from my experience that it’s simply not true. Sometimes you need help.
“Your story is your story, and it’s okay to make that choice to do it if you want to. I did, and I’m really happy with it.”
