Google has lifted the lid on its latest smartwatches at a launch event in New York City, showing off a small and large version of a new Pixel Watch 4. The devices look incredibly similar to all three previous generations of the wearable, with minimalist round display, metallic body and silicon strap.

But under the surface, Google claims the Watch 4, which comes in 41mm and 45mm sizes and costs from £349 and £399 respectively, has a new display that’s curved underneath the domed glass, allowing for a 10 percent larger screen and 16 percent smaller bezels than on the Pixel Watch 3. It’s also 50 percent brighter.

Either model with 4G LTE compatibility will set you back an extra £100. Other watch straps are also available such as a leather band and one with a stretch material. Google unveiled the smartwatches alongside the new Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL, as well as a foldable Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

The firm says it also has stronger haptics, a clearer speaker and up to 25 percent longer battery life, with 30 hours on the small model and 40 hours on the large. This should help to wear it day and night so you can track your steps, distance, heart rate and more to get a clearer picture of your health.

All models ship with a new charge that’s designed to hold the watches up so they can display the time with their always-on displays, ideal for setting on your bedside table. Google has also improved charging speeds, claiming you can charge from zero to 50 percent in 15 minutes.

The Pixel Watch 4 is powered by the new Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 processor and is IP68 dust and water resistant so you can wear it in the shower or use it to track your swims. As ever, you can only use it with Android phones and must also use the Fitbit app to track your health and fitness metrics.

With the Google Play Store, this is also a wearable you can download major Google and third party apps onto, with popular options including Spotify, Strava, WhatsApp, AllTrails, Shazam and Citymapper.

This being Google in 2025 there is also some AI thrown in, though mercifully not as much as you’ll find stuffed into the new Pixel 10 phones. The Pixel Watch 4 has “AI powered Activity Recognition” according to Google, with a redesigned Fitbit app and the Google Gemini assistant on call simply by raising your wrist and speaking to it.

An AI health coach is coming, but it’s only available in preview for US customers at launch.

Google claims the Watch 4 is capable of the most accurate sleep tracking yet from the line, able to better determine your sleep cycles. There’s also a new skin temperature sensor, more accurate route tracking thanks to dual-frequency GPS, more than 5-0 exercise modes and personalised tracking that uses AI to send you a recap of your workouts if you don’t manually start one on the watch.

Google has also given the Watch 4 its new software design that you’ll find on the Pixel 10, which the firm calls Material 3 Expressive. It’s more colourful then before and lets you personalise the look and feel more to match your style.

You can pre-order the Pixel Watch 4 from today, August 20, but they won’t ship until their on sale date of October 9. Google did not give a reason for the delay.
