This concern can lead to multiple nightly checks on the baby, a habit that seems to extend to our pets as well. One mum was left stunned when she saw her German Shepherd dog enter her child's room, and what happened next left her even more surprised.

Jeannie Russell shared a video on TikTok featuring footage from the baby monitor set up in her child's room, aimed at the cot so she could keep an eye on her baby throughout the night.

However, upon reviewing the footage one morning, she was astounded to see her 10-year-old German Shepherd approach the cot and watch over her baby for a moment, just as she would have done.

She captioned the video: "Watch my 10-year-old German Shepherd check on 'his' baby."

Viewers of the video were equally moved by the touching interaction. Many admitted to being brought to tears by the dog's gesture, while others hailed the pooch as "the best in the world".

Are German Shepherd dogs good with children?
