Watch out BT, Sky and Virgin - one UK rival offers you free broadband

It's pretty rare to get something for nothing, but that's exactly what one Internet Service Provider (ISP) is offering right now. Community Fibre has just announced a free deal that its rivals - such as BT, Sky and Virgin Media - definitely won't match. Those joining the broadband firm can currently get full access to the web and not pay a penny for the first six months.

This eye-catching deal is available on three plans, including fast 100Mbps, rapid 300Mbps and ultra-fast 1Gbps downloads. At that ludicrous rate, you'd be able to whizz a full HD movie to your TV in under 40 seconds.

Even when the 6-month freebie ends, the price of these plans is very competitive. From April 2026, those signing up will pay £21 for 100Mbps and just £27 for that ultimate 1Gbps access.

Now, you might think there must be a catch. Although the deal is real, there are some things to note. Firstly, the deal is only available until August 21 so you will need to act fast if you want to claim the freebie.

Next, there's the issue of connectivity as Community Fibre only supplies broadband access in and around the London area.

That means those living outside of the capital will sadly miss out.

Even if you can't connect to Community Fibre, it's still worth shopping around and checking out other so-called alternative providers, or altnets for short.

These smaller firms are popping up all over the UK and usually offer cheaper prices for much faster speeds.

For example, Hyperoptic is currently offering connections from just £20 per month, and Toob has rapid 900Mbps downloads for £25 per month.

Here are some other altnets to watch out for - Gigaclear • Trooli • BeFibre• YouFibre

Once again, these ISPs aren't nationwide and not every home will be able to connect. If you are one of the unlucky ones, you should still be able to find a better deal. For example, Sky currently has fast 150Mbps speeds for £26 per month and EE is dishing out 500Mbps £34.99 per month.

Just remember to check what speeds you really needs as the faster the downloads the more you will pay.
