Gary Neville has urged Manchester United to axe Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana and sign a new goalkeeper before the summer transfer deadline. Bayindir was partly at fault for Riccardo Calafiori's decisive goal in Arsenal's 1-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday, intensifying concerns about Ruben Amorim's options.
Onana missed out on the Premier League opener, having only completed three training sessions after returning from a hamstring injury that ruled him out of pre-season. But neither goalkeeper inspires confidence, and United's monitoring of the market this summer has come as no surprise.
The Red Devils look to be dedicating the last of their summer budget towards a new defensive midfielder after identifying Brighton and Hove Albion's Carlos Baleba as a target.
Amorim's defence of his goalkeepers suggests he could be willing to wait until next year to find a solution, despite an attempt to sign Emi Martinez on loan from Aston Villa.
However, Neville wants to see United move for a new stopper now before the problem continues to cost points and undo progress.
"What it does point towards is Arsenal's great set-piece play, the way in which they work set pieces, but it also points towards a glaring issue for United that cannot be ignored," he explained on The Gary Neville Podcast.
"And that is that they do need to find a goalkeeper. They have to. I am absolutely unequivocal on that because I had an experience at United for 20 years, where there were two big periods of seven or eight years with Schmeichel and Van der Sar.

"Then in between we had seven or eight goalkeepers in a six, seven, eight-year period, and it is really unsettling when you do not have a dominant No. 1 who is 6ft 2in, who is dominant in the air, who owns his six-yard box, who comes and punches everything, who makes a lot of saves on one-on-one, who saves you points when your defenders make mistakes.
"I think that is going to need to be something... I do not know where they are on PSR They seem to have a bit more money; they might have to sort of magic up a bit more money in the next week or two, or do something on loan."
He added: "I think they need to sort the goalkeeper out, because they will continually concede goals and points, and it undermines what you are doing.
"I have said here, those 72,000 home fans, when the goalkeeper is flapping at it, all they do is 'uhhh', and that 'uhhh' sends a shiver through defenders.
"It sends a shiver through the goalkeeper, it sends anxiety through the stadium. I have said it for many, many years, you have got to have personality, character and stability in that position.

"I think Manchester United are going to have to deal with it in the next couple of weeks."
Neville has called for his former club to return to the table for Martinez or attempt to hijack Manchester City's interest in Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma.
"The two that you look at who were mentioned in the last few weeks are [Emi] Martinez and [Gianluigi] Donnarumma," Neville continued.
"And the reason I say that those two would be good goalkeepers for Manchester United is not necessarily because I think they are the best goalkeepers in Europe or they are amazing, I think they have got big personalities and characters.
"You have seen Donnarumma in a European final for Italy; he saved all the penalties and looked like a giant. You have seen him play for PSG in huge games under pressure.
"You have seen Martinez play in World Cup finals and win a World Cup. So they have played under extreme pressure, and they have big personalities and characters.
"They almost walk out with that arrogance and sort of dominance of a goalkeeper, and I think Manchester United need that."
Onana will likely be back between the sticks for Sunday's trip to Fulham, which United are now under increased pressure to win after their opening-day defeat.
But there is a growing consensus that there is a low ceiling above Amorim and his players as long as he is restricted to the Cameroonian and Bayindir as his options.
