Drivers have been urged to check one thing before Friday. Temperatures are set to reach as high as 30C in parts of the UK on Friday, and hot conditions will continue into the weekend for many areas across the country. Brits need to take extra care to stay cool in their homes and stay hydrated throughout the day. Drivers also need to take extra care when temperatures are high, including checking their car is fit to drive in such conditions.

Drivers have been given a number of heatwave warnings, such as items they should remove from their cars and vital checks, such as tyre pressure. Experts have revealed that there is another check drivers need to make before driving their cars in a heatwave. Temperatures have been high this week, with peaks of 30C expected on Friday, August 5, according to the latest weather maps. Among the checks that drivers need to make ahead of such conditions is their coolant levels. 

The experts at DiscoverCars.com have warned of the importance of checking your car's cooling system to ensure everything is in working order. Coolant is an important component in cars and ensures that engines do not overheat. 

It is easy to check the levels, but you must wait until the engine has cooled down before checking. The coolant reservoir will be located under the hood of your car and will normally be easily identifiable.

It will have minimum and maximum fill lines, which is how you check if you have enough. If the coolant has gone below the minimum line, then you need to top it up straight away. If you notice a significant drop in your coolant levels happening on a regular basis, then you should bring your car to a mechanic.
