Emma Raducanu made a statement during her tight, three-set defeat to Aryna Sabalenka on Monday. The Brit proved that she can stay with the world's best players for hours without dropping her level, as Sabalenka narrowly came out on top in a final set tiebreak in their third-round showdown.
But there was one moment of madness for Raducanu, who walked closer to her new coach, Francisco Roig, for a brief chat after holding for 5-4 in the first set. Roig also got out of his chair to communicate better, and the umpire called Raducanu back before telling her they weren't allowed to approach one another.
"Emma, you cannot actively approach him and he cannot leave his position. You know that. You cannot have a conversation," Miriam Bley said.
Raducanu protested that she couldn't hear Roig over the music, but the umpire simply suggested Roig should speak louder.
"Okay, sorry, I didnβt know that. Can you tell someone to tell him? I canβt say it like now," the British No. 1 replied.
