Manchester United have reportedly rebuffed several offers for Harry Maguire this summer. The defender has found himself in high demand in recent weeks, with teams in the Premier League and elsewhere in Europe looking to secure his signature.

Ruben Amorim is in the heart of orchestrating a rebuild of his United ranks this summer, with the ex-Sporting boss injecting fresh legs into his attack with the signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is also being eyed.

Reinforcements elsewhere are under consideration too, with a new goalkeeper signing not being ruled out as well as another central midfielder to provide an alternative option to the likes of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte.

However, central defence appears to be an area of the squad in which Amorim is content with – and therefore United are in no hurry to allow Maguire to leave. According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils have knocked back five separate approaches for the ex-Leicester star already this summer.

Three Premier League clubs have come forward to attempt to lure the 32-year-old away from Old Trafford, as well as two Italian outfits who hoped that the prospect of heading abroad would turn his head.

However, despite the growing interest, Maguire remains happy at the Theatre of Dreams and is likely to extend his contract at the club and play out the remainder of his career with United. The defender hopes to ‘emulate’ Red Devils legends like Steve Bruce and Bryan Robson by putting faith in the club and guiding them back to their glory days.

Maguire’s current contract with United expires at the end of next season, but all parties are said to be on the same page about an extension and thus there is no sense of urgency to open talks. The centre-back currently earns £190,000-a-week so it remains to be seen whether the new higher ups at Old Trafford are willing to table an offer in that region again for an aging star.

Maguire will be keen to justify the show of faith from Amorim and co in the forthcoming campaign and solidify himself as a mainstay as part of the United back-three, with his leadership proving an important on and off the pitch.
