Flying can be uncomfortable, especially if you aren’t one of the lucky few with enough spare cash to shell out on business class. Since we spend most of the often hours long flights sitting down in the same seats, it can quickly get boring and uncomfortable, especially if you're sitting next to people you don't know.
Economy seats can be cramped, and if you’re on a flight for a long time, it can cause some discomfort and even lead to serious health complications.
Cramping, bloating and in serious cases, deep vein thrombosis can all be caused by sitting still on a plane for too long. That’s why if you’re planning on undertaking a long flight anytime soon, it's important to make sure you keep yourself comfortable and healthy.
While there are some things you can do to make it more comfortable, such as dressing in comfortable clothes, wearing noise cancelling headphones and a neck pillow, this might not always be effective.
To help, one flight attendant named Charlie Silver has shared her ultimate comfort hack for when you're next on a plane and want to get a bit more space in your seat.
In the video, Charlie is seen sitting in the aisle seat of a plane, showing the outer armrest doesn't lift up like the other armrests on the row does.
"Are you sitting on the aisle seat, wondering why your armrest doesn't go up?" she asked in the video. "Well, here you go. Here's a little hack for you."
She then is seen reaching for a button further in on the armrest, which then let here move the armrest up and down as she wished.
"Press this little hidden button and voila. Your armrest will move freely up and down," she said, showing the small lever-like button was within reach from where you were sat.
By pressing it, you could then move the armrest up, giving you more space in your seat for your comfort.
Several viewers soon took to the comments to praise Charlie for her simple yet effective trick, but some said it hadn't worked for them.
"The flight attendants always make me put it down," one person said. To this, another person explained: "You have to put it down for take off and landing, but you should be able to have it up during cruise."
Another person praised Charlie for her tip, saying: "This hack is great for when you're going into the row or getting out."
"Nah! Needed to see this at the beginning of the year! Why’s it so hidden," another frustrated viewer said.
However, not everyone was left impressed by the hack, as they said: "I thought everyone knew that."
